In the last year, we've interviewed 500+ remote managers in tech. (It was a lot of Zoom calls!!)

Here's what we learned, in a thread:

First off, remote managers struggle with:
1. Relationship-building 💖
2. Expectations & Trust 🤝
3. Burnout 😨
#1 - Remote team bonding is tough. It's intentional.

Managers succeed when they:
- Lead with vulnerability 💕
- Focus on growth 🌱
- Make 1:1s sacred 😄
- Take charge of team bonding 🏀
- Personalize recognition 👏
- Onboard with intention 👋
- Make space for skip-levels. 💎
#2 - Trust creates remote synergy. Low visibility can seed doubt.

To build a culture of trust:
- Assume positive intent 👍
- Over-communicate 📣
- Prioritize > micromanage 📋
- Set documentation standards 📚
- Address issues as trends 📉
- Learn fast(er) 🏎
- Ask for feedback ❓
#3 - 2020 wasn't "normal" remote work. Burnout is too common.

Managers help with recovery when they:
- Set no-meeting days 🙅🏻‍♀️
- Become burnout literate ‼️
- Take bonding off Zoom ☎️
- Get context on moods 🤗
- Address stress styles 😓
- Listen > Solve 👂
- Encourage time off 🏝
So, did I miss anything? Let me know! ✌️
