I guess this is a good time to announce I'm running for council in May. I'll be doing so for the Greens, in the interests of local democracy.

Here's a little thread explaining why: https://twitter.com/GreenbankGreens/status/1354098744711639046
I've worked for the council, volunteered with our homeless; I've represented both our clubs and championed the city overseas for years - but progress here has been slow, and recent events have cast a shadow. I want to be a part of a positive change.
Having a one party state - even one with good intentions at grassroots (as many Cllrs have) - opens the door to complacency and stagnation. Having another Green at the table ups everybody's game, which is better for residents long-term.
So many locals are disallusioned right now, tired of being taken for granted. Voting Green in May sends a message that you aren't willing to be left behind as other national parties slide towards the centre and right.
For me, standing for the Greens also means I don't have to worry about towing a party line. I can be an independent voice for constituants and call out the hypocricies of local and national politics.
I like how the Greens are an international movement. Amsterdam, Lyon, Budapest, Dublin and other huge cities we know well are led by Greens - bracing themselves for a more sustainable future.
Whilst here we still have a long way to go...
The Liverpool I know (study, savour and write about) is an international city too, one of creativity, ambition and innovation. It has always looked out to sea for inspiration - we, more than most, should be at the forefront of global change.
I don't see Labour as a foe (far from it), what I want is a better form of democracy, for the benefit of the city. By voting Green in May (if the date remains), you'll get that.
Thanks, I hope that hasn't been too boring to read. Feel free to offer critique/support - I may be new to politics but I'm open to other peoples' views (which is actually a metaphor for what I want Town Hall to be like).
