I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately

I’m WAY more anxious than either of my parents

I see another order of magnitude more anxiety-related behaviors interfering with the work of younger contractors I hire

Most of the 20-somethings I know are on ADHD meds or SSRIs https://twitter.com/pervexists69/status/1353922672862785537
What’s up with that? Is it the internet? The state of the economy?

Access to a scale of information we’ve never evolved to handle?
Have things always been like this and we’re only now talking about it?

Maybe it’s some kind of mass hysteria that’s memetic in nature

Maybe it’s selection bias for very online people who write prose in chat/social spaces and those who don’t, don’t have a voice
Feels like overactive threat recognition and accompanying trauma

Also isolation from supportive communities

Hmmm

Maybe the internet is bad
Maybe being online trains everyone in the cultivation of Tulpas to a degree that’s absolutely unprecedented

Haunting ourselves with the ghosts of phantom attackers in our own minds
Chatting online forces you to constantly be constructing mental phantoms of the person you’re interacting with and they don’t turn off when you close the chat window

If this is a primary social outlet as it is for many, you’re present with attackers all the time
You can’t physically distance yourself from threats assembled in your own head

Hmm

Hmmm 🤔
