Since Obama flipped the state in 2008, Colorado has seen a winding journey to where it finds itself at the present politically. To help visualize that, I used data from DailyKos and @SenhorRaposa to show recent elections here by congressional district. First: President 2008-2020.
Next, here are the recent elections for Colorado's Class II Senate seat. This seat flipped for Mark Udall in 2008 alongside Obama, then for Cory Gardner in 2014 in an R wave, then flipped back for fmr Governor Hickenlooper in 2020. Old and new congressional lines used for 2008.
Now, here are the recent elections for Colorado's Class III Senate seat. This seat, next up in 2022, is held by Michael Bennet after he was appointed to it in 2010. He has been elected twice to it, both in difficult years. Old and new congressional lines used for 2010.
Finally, here are the recent governor elections in Colorado. As y'all can see, 2010 was a chaotic year all by itself, though things settled down for 2014 and 2018. Polis is next up in 2022 and will be interesting to see how his coalition changes. Old and new lines used for 2010.
As a bonus, here are the 2000, 2004, and 2008 Presidential elections under the old congressional district lines, helping to show how Colorado moved from a red state in 2000 to a blue state under Obama in 2008. Hope y'all enjoyed the thread!
