Be choosy. Yes, I said it. Don't take any old scraps cause someone recognizes your reach and wants to use it for BHM visibility.

If there's no rates in that email/DM/ping to do a BHM event? Ask what their budget is for such activations.
If it's for charity? Most folks don't charge for a charity event, but make sure they know your worth as someone to spotlight doesn't start Feb 1 and end Feb 28th.

If there's no budget, and they pull some clown shoes move like messaging you with no time to think about the event, no time to plan, etc and want an immediate answer? That can be a red flag. Be careful how you lend your name to events.
Know your worth, look at your analytics to judge what your rates should be. This includes all social channels, Twitch, Twitter, YouTube, IG, TikTok. Most sites have analytics there for you to pull without a lot of hassle.
Get a contract if there's money involved. Have an invoice template ready for things like this. Plenty of free templates in Google and Open Office suite.
If you have representation, make sure they are looped in from the initial conversation. They're there for you after all.

Lastly, if you don't hear of a thing then see friends getting put on? Cool, be happy for them. Every event, every activation ain't for you & your content. Don't be salty if you ain't get the bag this time. Congratulate other folks success.
Don't forget the mantra of go work on your content. Just cause you may not get picked this time, doesn't mean that you're forever out of the running on getting picked for other things. There's plenty of opportunities out here for all of us.
TL;DR know your worth as companies reach out for BHM and don't be on some Highlander shit if you don't get picked for activations next month. The industry is smaller than you may realize.
