Purely out of respect for McConnell’s style of leadership. An homage, if you will.
We could call it the Mitch McConnell rule: One is not obliged to honor promises made to the other party when your party is in power.
At some point the McConnell Rule should be retired, because it's really no way to run a deliberative body in a democracy. But given that his party has given up on democracy for now, there's really no need to play by rules that your opponents refuse to follow.
