I self taught myself in paid social and digital advertising by looking into resources (Blueprint, @Google Skillshop, Flight), some of the @Adobe Creative Suite (Ps and Pro in particular), and testing in email marketing and website CMS programs.
I bring this thread up because as I mentioned, many of us are self taught in various skills in the jobs that we do.
Sometimes it's for recreation and sometimes our industry is fast evolving.
But all of these skills are VALID even if you don't have a degree or certification.

We need to start recognizing that self taught professionals are just as proficient and highly skilled st their jobs as to someone that has formal training.
Yes a degree and certification is also valid. But at the end of the day, it's the work and grit that should be recognized.

Finally . . . I think that Twitter is probably the most powerful tool when it comes to sharing resources for self teaching individuals.
