Okay, @LoKapila will probably kill me for this, because she generally a modest and private person. But here goes anyways. She gets asked fairly regularly to speak about starting @DublinInquirer, and consistently downplays her role, giving loads of credit to others. 1/5
But, just to be clear, Lo wrote the business plan, created the vision for what it could and should be, and went around pitching it to potential funders, and was underestimated and condescended to by nearly everyone, but still went on to launch it in 2015. 2/5
Men (it is always men) have been periodically emailing her or calling her (or even me) for years to explain how they think she should be running the business. People are casually racist to her – someone even complimented her on her English (she's from England, haha). 3/5
She's been told that the fact that the paper is not massively profitable means no one values it and she should just quit. She's had to put up with my persistent whinging about all the work and how exhausted I am by all of it (and she can't escape because we live together). 4/5
In the face of all this being condescended to and doubted and underestimated and whinged at, in the face of the global decimation of local newspapers, she's built a lovely community paper. And if she won't step forward and say, "I built this," I just wanted to say it for her. 5/5
Also, as her agent, I am happy to take bookings for her to do speaking engagements :-)
