In first wave, lack of border measures made pandemic much worse. So latest delays in strengthening quarantine/tests for new variants are serious.
Asked Home Secretary about the crowding/queues at UK border on Friday - the very opposite of quarantine. Answer raises real problems
Asked Home Secretary about the crowding/queues at UK border on Friday - the very opposite of quarantine. Answer raises real problems
Home Sec said that queues were the result of Border Force bringing in compliance checks.
But;
1. Proper checks shd have been in place for months - with proper systems to avoid crowded queues
2. Point of checks is to stop Covid spreading so why let crowded queues undermine that?

3. Home Sec said several times U.K. Border Force was checking 100% of passengers. But travellers said checks were being lifted because the arrivals hall had got too crowded. https://twitter.com/jonhaworth_/status/1352954957398503424
4. No clarity about what is being done now to make sure we don’t see similar scenes again of lots of people arriving at border, waiting in crowded halls, then having even the limited existing checks lifted so they head off to public transport without quarantine/arrival tests/etc https://twitter.com/tvrav/status/1352954188926431232
This matters because if checks, tests & quarantine are badly implemented then the reality will continue to be far from the Government rhetoric about preventing Covid and new variants from spreading at the border
