The conversation is starting now, thank you all for joining us!
Kim Worsham : 'Why do sanitation organisations need data?
Data is so important to help assess and course-correct how things are going, help organisations to see what to course-correct failure before it comes a failure.'
Wairimu Muthike: 'Before you embark on an implementation, there needs to be an understanding of collecting and analysing data.'
Megan Williams: The only way to see sustained progress in sanitation, we need to focus on the data. We need to see this over time, not just from the onset'
Laura Mugeha : 'If you compare SDGs to the MDGs, we are hoping that we are not leaving anyone behind. The first thing data would help within sanitation, is to identify who has access to sanitation and who doesn't?
John Peter Archer: 'We see that data open up opportunities and make this easier to see within sanitation, It enables collaboration in sanitation, sharing what we all know and what we don't know'
Megan Williams ( @splash_org : Using data as a motivational tool is important, we can use this to inspire and illustrate the progress that has been made by people within sanitation.
Wairimu Muthike ( @BusaraCenter): Organisations and providers may not have exhaustive budgets on data collection, nevertheless, there is a benefit in the design process and using decisions & observation labs.
John Peter Archer ( @gatherhub_ ): The ODI data ethics canvas is great with structuring data collection process
John Peter Archer on using statistics: Our tool has been different conversations with decision-makers and governments. We have tried to see how can we pool resources and collaborate to provide support to governments in improving sanitation rather than just critique data process
Laura Mugeha ( @laura_mugeha): It is important to look at location data, more organisations in the sanitation sector should look into this. We also need more organisations to share their data to encourage collaboration.
John Peter Archer ( @gatherhub_ ): Seek collaboration where possible! You'll be gaining knowledge at a local level and helping to support capacities of organisations and govts. It's vital that we share knowledge across the sector.
The 'Sanitation and Data: A Power Couple' webinar/conversation has just ended! We want to thank everyone for joining us and thank our fellow panelists in this necessary and engaging conversation!
