I would say that an #internetshutdown
in India's national capital are unprecedented & shocking. But sadly now only the latter hold true. Remember that just 13 months ago, the Union Govt shutdowns across Delhi during #CAA_NRC protests. And again today during #FarmersProstests

Today's #internetshutdown
in Delhi impacts hundreds of thousands of people, depriving them of their rights on a day meant to celebrate them and the constitution that came into force to guarantee them 71 years ago.

And to be clear, it is now clear that an #internetshutdown
never helps address a tense situation or help prevent or combat violence. It adds to insecurity and frustrates the reporting and communications that reveals abuse of power & commission of violence. https://theconversation.com/shutting-down-social-media-does-not-reduce-violence-but-rather-fuels-it-115960

Also imp to note: since 2016-17, the Union Govt has ducked questions from MPs & press on its direct role in encouraging internet shutdowns. Today's #internetshutdown
in Delhi during India's Republic Day was directly ordered by the Union Home Ministry; the order makes it clear.
