"Thus I will put an end to your lewdness and your whoring begun in the land of Egypt, so that you shall not lift up your eyes to them or remember Egypt anymore" - Ezekiel 23:27
God has a unique approach to ending the love relationship with sin.

He lets it play out to its full measure.

Ezekiel chapter 23 is evidence.
Our lusts never give us what we want.

And they never will.

The Rolling Stone sung about it...

"You can't always get what you want"

"I can't get no satisfaction"
"Have you ever wanted something so badly
That it possessed your body & your soul
Until you finally get it!
And then you realize that it wasn't what you wanted after all.
And then those selfsame sickly little thoughts
Now go & attach themselves to something...new!"
- Matt Johnson
This is a problem for humanity.

God isn't having it.

And He has a solution for it.
Ezekiel 23 tells the story of the unending lusts of Samaria and Jerusalem.

You see these two cities belonged to God, but they wanted be embraced by the Assyrians and Babylonians.

And God called it adultery.
These lusts began way back in Egypt.

When she wanted to turn back from following God and return to the land of slavery.

Lusting for something that was not God's plan.
What is God's solution of the lusts of Jerusalem and Samaria?

He gives them over to the lovers they lust for.

"Therefore I delivered her into the hands of her lovers, into the hands of the Assyrians, after whom she lusted" - Ezekiel 23:9
As you can imagine... it didn't work out.

"These uncovered her nakedness; they seized her sons and her daughters; and as for her, they killed her with the sword; and she became a byword among women, when judgment had been executed on her." - Ez 23:10
Now... imagine for a moment...

What might it look like for God to make the ultimate object lesson for humanity in regards to idolatry?
If fallen humanity has been lusting after a false god made with its own hands for thousands of years...

What happens when God finally gives fallen humanity over to these lusts?

God allows man to create a god in his own image and after his own lusts... and hands them over to it.
