Very interesting how many people saw this as an "insult to remainers", which it was not meant to be.
The Brexit/Scexit issue is full of irony from BOTH sides as tables have fully turned on who'll tick "Leave: or "Remain". That nuance was not clear, so a thread to explain.

The main reason why many Remainers back Scots Independence is that they feel that Scotland shouldn't have been pulled out of the EU against its will - this is an argument I fully understand and sympathise with. It seen as an issue of fairness.
2)
However, there is irony in that those Remainers who support Scots independence do so at a purely emotional level, without addressing its implications on breaking up families, its effect on the Scots economy + ignoring that EU accession takes years and is by no means guaranteed
3)
There is also big irony on that they are making a nationalist argument for sovereignty (whatever the price) and perhaps strangest of all, some back breaking up Britain whilst continuing to claim that Brexit was a ploy to weaken Britain by Putin. If so, why play into his hands?
4)
The government is in the situation that it argues for denying sovereignty to a nation that may wish to leave one union, whilst making the case that sovereignty justifies leaving another union.
The irony of that should not need an explanation.
5)
It does this with dull economic arguments and rebuttals rather than putting out any positive message to lead he debate and inspire at an emotional level. It surely must know that in doing so, it is repeating the same mistakes that lost it the Brexit vote in 2016? More irony...
6)
There is so much irony in the #Scexit debate, that many people on both are literally using/ignoring the opposite arguments for Remain/Leave that they used/ignored over Brexit. Emotions with no plan or clearly defined outcome vs dull rationality that doesn't inspire emotion.
7)
However, I don't think the debate is a full role reversal for everyone. Many Remainers oppose Scots independence as it would break up families with the need for a Trumpian wall in the middle of Britain (if Scotland was able to pass all the hurdles of joining the EU).
8)
Likewise there are Brexiteers who don't care about the 🇬🇧 union (ironically whilst waving the flag) and some English nationalists even actively seek its destruction.
It's questionable whether Farage's new campaign really is "for" the union as it will spilt the unionist vote.
9)
Thankfully there are some who see the need for making a positive case for the Union. Good thread here 👇 https://twitter.com/MacfarlaneJamie/status/1353668114496581632?s=19
