You make zines to express yourself and to share your creation with others. Not to fit a mold.

Some tips below:
• Set your funding goal at a reasonable amount. $100 is perfectly fine. You probably won’t get independently wealthy off zines.
• Need help with art? Source it from commercially-approved CC sites like Unsplash. That way, when you want to commission later, you’ll have funds.

• You don’t have to print it. Make it PDF only. Make it B&W so people can print at home.
• Want to print? No need to do super fancy anything. It’s a zine. DIY or find a local print shop or order online. Don’t get 100lb. color covers. 80lb. B&W is ok.

• You are the fulfillment company. I mailed out 1200+ zines from my living room last October/November. Take the time to figure out postage (locally & internationally), order the envelopes and labels, and go. Go super DIY and hand-address each one if it’s a small print run.
• No frills. No stretch goals. Don’t add color if you don’t have it in you. Don’t add in stickers or bookmarks or additional content. Don’t cave into the pressure of doing more. Will that turn off people? Yes. But what’s a few bucks for your own sanity?

Do this for you. Use it as a jumping off point for a larger project. If you’ve never run a KS before it can be stressful, but it doesn’t have to be.
Tons of zines will launch in February, & you should be a unique voice in that world, not a copy.
