I can't get over the fact that Republicans' entire argument against impeachment is "You can't hold us accountable for radicalizing domestic terrorists because it will upset the domestic terrorists we radicalized."
Also, they're *STILL* doing it! Every time Rand Paul suggests the election was illegitimate, or Hawley complains conservatives are being "muzzled", or Rubio & Cruz imply if there's more MAGA violence Dems are to blame. They're still fanning the same flames. They haven't learned.
And why should they learn their lesson if there's no accountability? This is the 2nd time Republicans made the same arguments against impeaching & convicting Trump. "Yeah, he did the crime, but punishing him would be too divisive." When HE sowed and watered the seeds of division.
What's the message? "As long as a president polarizes the country enough, he can never be held accountable for anything he does"? The Republicans are trying to set some dangerous precedents. Trump needs real legal consequences, and so do the rest of those who bear responsibility.
Impeachment without conviction is not accountability. Susan Collins's excuse for not convicting him the first time was that she thought he'd learned his lesson from impeachment alone. It was laughable at the time, but it's entirely disproven now. Trump doesn't learn.
