A few take-home lessons about #rapidevaluation from today's conference (a quick thread):

1. The UK has expedited research approval processes during the pandemic. Going forwards, how can we maintain a flexible and responsive evaluation and research system?
2. @trishgreenhalgh discussed a democratic approach to rapid evaluation which involves users and seldom heard voices. What evaluations do patients want to see? e.g. about long Covid.
3. Trish also discussed utilisation-focused evaluations. We need to constantly keep in mind when and how decision makers will use our evaluation findings.
4. @DrJudithSmith advised, 'don't skimp on scoping'. When you're designing your rapid approach, bring on board your collaborators and service users and get the questions right with them.
5. Local service evaluations can help decision makers where they pull out implications for the bigger picture - what to do nationally.
6. We need to be honest in rapid evaluations - and research generally - about where data is missing, messy and where there is uncertainty. @trishgreenhalgh reminded us to be upfront about this.
