The Sigma Male idea is stupid, pseudoscientific and reveals the flexibility of the pick-up artist grift, telling clients that they're basically John Wick because they have commitment issues, but can also explain away their own failings to meet 'alpha' standards.1/?
It's also hilarious that for an idea that's been floating around for over a decade, it's only had a burst of interest quite recently - presumably a combination of FOMO and realising that doubling the 'good' archetypes increases the chance of 'successful' outcomes for clients. 2/?
(The examples of sigma and alpha males also seem to depend on who's asking - searching for Tyler Durden and John Wick show they've been characterised as both. 3/3)
Also I should add this is not meant to be a validation of the other 'male hierarchy' elements which are also pseudoscientific nonsense which has been roundly debunked - just that sigma males seem to be all the rage right now!
Why does this matter? It’s a grift that reinforces misogynistic pseudoscience and when it fails, those who bought in blame women as well as PUAs (PUAHate, for example), further reinforcing the underlying beliefs.
On a side note you've got to love the hagiography of fathers which is a theme I've noticed a few times (though this one is nothing on Dark Triad Man's combination of Western heritage dog-whistles and kitschy visions of Imperial glory https://bit.ly/2M6F0JV )
UPDATE:A blog from 2019, which Links to Vox Day's video on the "socio sexual hierarchy" has informed me that betas are renamed 'bravos' and that gammas - "the hopeless romantic, the sensitive, and the friend zoned guy" - include Daniel Larusso, Harry Potter and Jordan Peterson.
