It appears that the Fog Bell has been in 3 locations numbered on the sat image. An account from c1870 describes it as ‘a strong beam, near the top a deep-toned bell and round the base a wooden cabin to shelter the ringer’. This acc matches the photo dated 1869 in the book, ‘Don E Want Ony Srimps’ by Harry Foster. He states in the book that the last time the
bell rang was in 1945 for ‘Old Bet’ who had been missing for 12hours! I am still non the wiser as to why the date 1876 is on the present plaque, unless it is a mistake for 1896 when it was rebuilt by John Geddes.
