So the difficulty with the "benefits" question is that everyone has their own subjective view of what benefits are.

For me personally I saw the UK departure as inevitable - that the two wanted different things from the relationship and a different future, and sooner or later that would come to a head and we would leave.

I also (I think quite rightly) took the position that the longer the UK was in the EU, the harder it would be to leave, as the more entwined we would be.
So once you believe that leaving is inevitable, leaving as soon as possible becomes a priority.
