I'm not sure it's been spelled out clearly enough that the entire 'anti-woke' agenda being pushed heavily by the government & their host of right wing media weasels has a very simple synonym. It's backlash.
Over recent years, there has been a modicum of progress towards making the country less racist, less bigoted, less tolerant of discriminatory speech & behaviour. The 'anti-woke agenda' is the concrete policy of a government that is attempting to reverse that. It's backlash.
Most directly, the year 2020 saw an explosion of outrage over institutional racist violence & oppression, in policing, broader social policy & culture, and an inspirational global effort to address it. The 'anti-woke agenda' attempts to arrest & reverse that movement. Backlash.
Why is it happening? IMHO probably not because the government are KKK-style white supremacists who consider this stuff an actual endpoint goal of policy. It's because their political success has been built entirely upon (racialised) nationalist, imperialist identity politics >

This government could not care less about a council calling a new street 'Diversity Grove.' This government knows full well that 'critical race theory' is not taught in schools & never was, & is barely heard of even in universities. But they know there are votes in a Backlash.
You know. I know you know. I just wanted to get it off my chest.
