This week Cabinet will seek to ratify two sites for Community-Led Housing (CLH) in @Royal_Greenwich. I am grateful to all the local activists working with us. This is an exciting opportunity for residents to build affordable homes locally.

Community-led housing is where residents come together to develop housing in their local community. This can be done through several mechanisms. E.g a Community Land Trust (CLT) which is a resident-led non-profit org that manages the development, the homes, & its maintenance.
CLTs create permanently affordable housing through a range of tenures. In an innovative way, it bakes in affordability in perpetuity by pricing the homes to local incomes. CLTs ensure that when homes are sold or rented, the value will be at a similar affordable level.
By exploring CLH it opens access to dedicated CLT funding from the @MayorofLondon & Govt, and support from @LondonCLT, @CLHLondon and @community_land. The process of setting up a CLT, building & managing the new homes helps to build community cohesion. It provides opportunities for members of the community to learn new skills, take on training & it creates new jobs for local people.
We are undertaking a multi-faceted approach to deliver housing through regeneration, #GreenwichBuilds, Community & Co-operative housing, Meridian Home-Start (PRS), working with housing associations, @SadiqKhan & @tomcopley to deliver a mix homes & tenures in @Royal_Greenwich.
