The howl of extremely online transphobes is not representative of how public opinion is shifting irl.

Polling shows that most young people, and contrary to the noise on here, most *women*, are in favour of trans people using the facilities which match their gender.
One thing that's been really wonderful is seeing how my mum's opinion has changed over the last half a decade or so.

She works in child protection, and initially was a bit suspicious of the idea that minors could or should receive hormonal treatment for gender dysphoria.
But over time, she saw firsthand how transgender youth and their parents were being affected by *not* being able to receive that treatment. She witnessed how mental health would deteriorate and how trans kids would become withdrawn and isolated.
From a child protection angle, she became more convinced of the need to facilitate, rather than impede, trans young people and their parents to access support services (and that includes treatment like puberty blockers).
Because she worked directly with trans youth, my mum's mind was changed on all sorts of things. She saw the issues around safeguarding within a context which included trans women and girls, and didn't pit their need for safety and dignity against that of cisgender women.
She's not au fait with all the latest lingo. She doesn't use words like 'cisgender', or think everyone should state their pronouns.

But I think it's pretty cool that a social worker in her 60s has changed her mind on trans rights, and that it's come from a place of care.
