'That corner' of Chelsea on twitter - you know, the one that loves to talk about the 'fanbase' - are between 15 and 20 years old. They've never known Chelsea without Abramovich, a blessing they don't properly understand. They were toddlers when Frank Lampard was in his pomp.
They weren't even teenagers when, upon winning the Champions League, his first instinct was to turn and run towards the fans, rather than than with the rest of his team mates. They've seen the videos, they know the story, but they don't *truly* get it.
And maybe that's understandable, it's hard to properly understand the depth of that connection if you were too young to experience it properly. Don't get me wrong, they 'celebrate' him and try to feel it, but it's never the same.
You see it in the way they instead lionize someone like Eden Hazard, a lesser player by far in all-round impact and meaning to the club, because he was *the* outstanding player of their generation. He can barely smile in Madrid without getting a comp video and a 'take me back'.
(Which is all the better for him given how little he's done there)

That's why this whole experience has been easier for them, it's why they find it easier to disrespect a proper legend from afar. They were never there when he mattered the most. He was one of us, they weren't.
