Based on 40 years in education I’d like to say to the 8 million kids who aren’t in school , you are all amazing , its hard missing lessons , missing your friends . This is an extraordinary time in our country’s history. I have taught thousands of you over the years in schools
and in my private tuition business . You are stronger than people think , you are resilient and always bounce back . Do not worry if you miss a year in the long run it won’t matter too much . If you’re doing some home schooling with your wonderful parents or teachers on line
that’s great . It will stay with you . For the older ones it doesn’t matter if you do your GCSEs or A levels at a later time the maximum age you’ll be is 19 . You have so many years ahead of you . You’ll look back and say we came through .
Your parents love you and always want the best for you every single day as do your teachers . You will catch up , you will see and hug all your friends again , the virus will eventually be defeated . You’ll be special because you were strong and went through one of the hardest
times for young people ever in our history . When you go back to school realise that your teachers did their best for you and your families in this unprecedented situation . They have gone into work fearing for their lives and some teachers have actually died from Covid .
Finally to all of you , be strong , keep learning in the best way you can , remember to do as much fun stuff you can do too . Most importantly do not think that the work you have missed will harm your future chances . It won’t , you’ll be ok . Good luck to you all .
I spent many years as a secondary school head of department, classroom teacher , exams officer , moderator , question setter for exams and form teacher also one to one tutor for children aged 7 to 18 . I’ve been involved in counselling kids too .
I have through all that had one aim . To give every child a chance to learn, to grow and achieve their dream , whatever it is . Be sure to hang on to your dream , in the long run this is just a pause , a breath before you go again back to normal on the road to success .
