Farmer's bill is a golden opportunity to initiate a conversation around land reforms and land rights especially for Dalits, women, trans and other marginalised groups. Agriculture in India is intrinsically linked to caste system, oppressive systems of bondage and bonded labours.
If farmers are fighting for their right to livelihood and sustainance, this is our opportunity to build solidarities with the labourers who till the land but have no ownership or control over. Agriculture is deeply masculine and oppressive system.
We all eat the sweat and blood of the very marginalised groups especially Dalits and women who grow our food but cannot demand their right over the land. If we are not changing the power dynamic even now, how can we ever have any parity in agriculture?
Or we still have to wait and keep waiting?
