One of the most illuminating events on Ranked Choice Voting this week was Sen. Rivera's ranked endorsement of String then Morales. It has convinced me that everyone's still developing a working strategy on RCV & why I think Dianne is running to lose, while Stringer's got RCV game
At least three candidates will outlast all the other candidates in RCV rounds until someone gets 50%+1. Dianne has nothing to gain in being considered next to Scott who, in all likelihood, will survive all rounds. In effect, she has conceded her votes to Scott.
If it was her first, then Scott, it would've made more sense for both camps. Because Scott will still get Dianne voters, but Dianne will still keep her votes in every rounds until she gets nicked (if the elections were held today).
However, that wasn't the case. No votes will go to Morales, and all votes will go to Scott. The worse part of this is that this went through without any concessions from the Stringer camp. It's like Morales conceded without getting anything but second billing.
Caveat that this is all taking consideration of the current polling. But with this decision, I feel that Morales isn't really running to win, and that Scott's opponents have to be aware that he's got the RCV game down pat.
Happy to be proven wrong tho!
