In early 1900s Edmonton City Council passed a motion demanding the halt to Black immigrants.

100+ years later Edmonton has never had a Black municipal politician. The attitudes that contributed to this are present in Diana's engagement with @HaruunAli and @SawrasaurusRex https://twitter.com/DianaSteele/status/1353532909563441153
It's nice to see @HaruunAli running for city council.

Especially when campaigning in a city so painfully committed to shutting down the experiences of Black Edmontonians.
For some context, I have lived in @DianaSteele's community for years and over the summer a post was made on the community facebook group.

It was in the middle of the BLM resurgence and all I asked was if I was able to talk about racism in our community.

I was quickly removed.
This surprised me and I was pretty disappointed as I have definitely been followed while jogging in the neighbourhood.

Refusing to take this seriously is in line with how Edmonton has grappled with systemic racism. The problem is ignored and whitewashed.
Hopefully Diana can take a moment to learn about this history and to listen to what Haruun and Sarah have to say.
