Antis want control over you by manipulating your emotions and are motivated by attention.
Hateful content is contagious - seeing hateful posts makes it more likely that you yourself will post hate

Antis feel excited by creating social mayhem/disruption, and believe hateful actions are ok if they are amusing.
You can't use logic or facts to argue with a troll because they don't believe what they say. They choose their words to make you as angry/upset as possible.

Antis are motivated by any attention, even negative. Getting this attention is addictive.
Antis want to win approval and clout from one another.
They often fake being part of other communities to maximize the response to their posts.

Responding to + sharing hate comments gives positive reinforcement to antis, who thrive on the attention.
It also encourages other ppl to post hate bc they see how much attention it receives.
It increases negativity in the community and can affect your mental health.

Hiding hate (by reporting and blocking) leads to a more positive community which makes ppl less likely to engage in copycat troll behavior.
To successfully block out anti posts, we need to all be on the same page about how to respond. Moving quickly and quietly is best!

Study after study says that the best way to handle trolls is to starve them of attention. Any attention is reinforcement of their behavior.
Posting screenshots spreads hateful content to a wider audience and inspires other antis to target us.

Recognize the real consequences of your actions, instead of a fantasized version.
We all like to feel like defenders, standing up for our favs and stamping out hate. This is our fantasy though. In practice, by responding, we are giving the negativity and hate a bigger platform.

BTW not a single study said that you could effectively stop trolls if you "humiliate" them by making a witty comeback or "educate" them with facts. If you spend any time writing a response to antis, they see it as a win. They have succeeded in getting your attention.
sry for monologuing, caught up in the idea of us all enjoying a less toxic and more positive place here
