Saw a post in a neighborhood group today where a parent asked why she should send her child to @ChiPubSchools if the @CTULocal1 doesn’t trust them to keep kids safe.
I have a lot of opinions on this one.

Chicago Public Schools is trying to run itself like a business. They have a CEO FFS.
Unfortunately they succeed at doing that. They don’t care about equity. They care about numbers that don’t really show what’s actually happening.

Social services should never be run for profit.
Hear me out. We should invest in the children of our city. All of them. Every last one. That’s what the teachers of Chicago so.

@ChiPubSchools made my principal fight to have our schools cleaned after they handed out the cleaning services to a private for profit company.
We lost custodians who new our student, they were members of the community. Now I see different people weekly.

@ChiPubSchools made us fight for playground equipment. Ours was nonexistent at that point.
There is a lack of equity in @ChiPubSchools that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t fight to improve it.

It will only improve when we as a city truly support it and not just selective enrollment but neighborhood schools.
And if we treat all schools as worthy. Not just certain ones. We need to lift up all of our children.

I love public schools. I work at one. I send my child to one. I am there every day. Trying my damndest to reach as many children as I can.
Sometimes it takes more than I feel I have. Other times it’s a walk in the park.

What can we do?
Take the power away from the mayor. Have an elected school board that is made up of real people. Parents, teachers, educators.
It shouldn’t be an appointment where they answer to the mayor. They should answer to us. The people of Chicago.

We the people from all around the city have an obligation to take care of the children of the city. All of them.
If we want our city to survive we take care of our kids.
In the classroom, at home, and where ever else they need us.

Social Services are important. Social Services should be available to our most vulnerable.
These kids need to feel safe and loved no matter where they are.
Thank you for your time. Use your voice. One Chicago for all.
