This is a hielera. It means ice chest. Spanish-speaking migrants call it this because of how freezing they are. Yes, kids and adults are detained in these places.
This is a "perrera" or dog kennel. Spanish-speaking migrants call it this because... well just look at them. People also report that these places are freezing. These are probably what you have seen on the news, but don't be fooled. It's not the only place kids are placed.
This is a family prison. There are currently 3 open. 2 in Texas and 1 in Pennsylvania. They look a little better than the hieleras and perreras, but also don't be fooled. These places are actual privately operated prisons. People have reported abuse and neglect for adults & kids.

Now, why I'm I sharing this? Well, we expect some announcements coming on the 29th on immigration. Biden is probably going to talk about family separation and how they will re-unite families. That's a great step! Also, we need to ensure these horrible, inhumane places are gone.
If you rallied behind the demand to stop caging kids under Trump, I hope you can also rally behind the call to close these place and replace them with humane ways to treat people who are seeking home and safety in the U.S. We know it can be done.
