I believe in Death of the Author as in a text should stand by itself and the author has no right to tell people what they should or shouldn't read from a text
Although I also aknowledge that that's increasingly difficult in the personality driven world of celebrity we live in

The author's job is to provide the text and nothing more, they have no right to tell people things exist without putting them in the text. But I also think the author's reading is not any LESS valid than anyone else's. Just not any more valid either
If I decide that Dumbledore isn't gay because it isn't anywhere in the text whatsoever than I'm not wrong, because there's nothing in the text that says otherwise.
Which also applies the other way too, if you think a character is queer, then in your reading they are. That's OK

This also means, as much as it pains me, that you can take NO extra meaning from a text other than what's written
Catcher in the Rye can just be about a fuck up
Moby Dick can just be about a whale
Rocky can just be about a boxer
Frankenstein can just be about a monster

Of course, you can add meaning too.
Maybe you think Harry Potter is about the folly of heroics
Maybe you think Scott Pilgrim is about how shitty nerd guys who play bass are
Maybe you think 1984 is about authoritarianism and not just how some good pussy can have a man actin up

Basically what I'm trying to say with all this, is that Animal Farm is a deeply flawed and confused analogy of the USSR and any ready that takes that put of it is generally superior.
