I’m shocked that people accept that @LeoVaradkar has just said “Summer holidays and seeing relatives next Christmas "would be off the agenda". We are in a never ending cycle of restrictions that will never stop unless the people want it to stop.
We are destroying lives, business, livelihoods, mental health, physical health & an unquantifiable risk to future long term mortality to save lives in the short term. There is no right answer to this crises but destroying the country’s economy and people’s lives is NOT the answer.
He also suggest people may not be able to travel to see a dying relative (as they redefine “necessary journey”). I am so glad my parents passed away years ago as nothing would stop me being at the bedside of my parents on their dying day. You will never get that chance again.
The government told us we were going to “live with Covid” and instead we are trying to avoid Covid at all costs. Never in the history of mankind have we eradicated a Coronavirus or in fact any virus by avoiding it.
Our health service is on the verge of collapse because of COVID policy of isolating healthy close contact absenteeism and reduced capacity policy. We are losing lives in care homes because of reluctance to use 5 minute antigen tests on staff.
Questions are now being asked as to the constitutional legality of preventing people (who abide by Covid rules of travel) leaving the country for a holiday. The legality of denying young people a proper education. The legality of fines for walking 6km instead of 5km.
Public health is not just about our physical health. The WHO themselves describes health as physical, mental, and social health. We only seem to care about COVID health and everything else has been neglected to the detriment of our non-COVID physical, mental and social health.
