it's job market talk season! you have the power to be a constructive, positive presence during one of the most stressful days of a jmc's life! don't let the opportunity pass you by. here are some ideas.... 1/n
you could turn your camera on! you could turn your camera on AND smile! 2/n
you could say "i really like _____". topic? choice of data? work that went into cleaning it? question? approach? graphics??? anything? think of something! 3/n
you could say "i can see that ______ must have been challenging!" if you don't like anything lol. acknowledging hard work never hurts 4/n
if you ask a question and they answer "wrong", OFFER AN ANSWER TO THE QUESTION YOURSELF!!!!!!! or admit that you don't know either! you're there to help! 5/n
or rephrase the question or offer a supporting example. dunking on someone really isn't as fun as setting them up for success 6/n
this all applied even pre pandemic.... trust that your own judgment is good enough that you don't need to be obnoxious to fairly assess the quality of someone's work lol. remember that duflo quote about how she doesn't get enough positive reviews for the aer?!! 7/7
