Who are really behind the stunts? A huge but very informative thread
Let's start with Max Clifford an english publisher who has been known to "rewrite" the rules of PR. According to him a made-up story was as good as a genuine one. He was also described as a compulsive liar.
In March of 2014 he was found guilty of 8 counts of indecent assault on four girls and women aged between 15 and 19.
On 2 May 2014, he was sentenced to eight years in prison.
He died on 10 December 2017, three days after suffering a heart attack, whilst still an inmate.
One of Clifford's most famous clients was our very own Simon Cowell (from 2004 to 2014).
Whilst in prison he was asked if Simon was visiting him. His answer was: "No, he’s a coward. I knew he’d run a mile"

Louis Theroux (an american-british filmmaker) claimed that Clifford had set up a lot of publicity stunts for simon (even though simon himself had denied it)

In an interview Max had confirmed that PR agents are the most successful at manipulating the media and that they have huge influence in rumours stoping/starting. (1:55- 3:40)
Clifford had also openly stated that he supports and has performed closeting as a way to mantain a client's career. He specifically said that none of his clients had been outed.
That's interesting considering Simon has been rumoured to be closeted for years.

If that theory is true his beard is Lauren Silverman. They supposedly had a secret relationship (when she was married) but went public when she got pregnant in 2013. Her husband divorced her and made Simon stay away for his and Lauren's son or he would have to pay 50.000$ penalty

Taken into consideration the above it's not unlikely that Simon would use similar methods that were used upon him to closet harry and louis (beards, pr stunts, babygate)
I always believed that bbg isn't explicitly about closeting. I thought that there was something else hidden behind. So what if Louis knew about Simon's backstory (a lot more than we know) and threatened to reveal everything. That's why simon trapped him to silence him

Anyways this is obviously just a theory but it would make sense for simon to use the same techniques that were used for years upon him. You could almost say "copy of a copy of a copy"
