1. I know I criticize the SBC a lot, but I do wanna say some positive things about Southern Baptists as well, I owe them a lot. First off, I could not have my degrees if not for Southern Baptists & their financial support thru the cooperative program.
2. Secondly, I’ve been to many SBC Conventions and there hasn’t been one where folks by & large haven’t been friendly. Since becoming somewhat of a public figure, when I have gone I have had numerous Southern Baptists from all age groups come up to me & show me love & support.
3. Yes, I’ve also been met with some hostility, but there have only been a handful of times where people have approached me with anger. Most of the time interactions have been supportive & I’ve seen many Southern Baptist’s stand up for truth & righteousness, esp younger gen.
4. At one point, I even had a white Southern Baptist pastor, someone I have never met, reach out & offer to fly me to Texas for a convention b/c he believed in the need of a black presence that much. He did, but sadly once I landed I learned Mike Pence was announced as a speaker.
5. There is no doubt in my mind that there are a multitude of faithful pastors & church members within the SBC that are faithful lights of the gospel. The problem is that they aren’t the ones with the power & I truly believe they should split & form a new denomination.
6. I critique b/c I’ve been invested for almost 20 years. If I wasn’t invested & didn’t have a lot of love for a a lot of Southern Baptists, I wouldn’t say anything & just leave the SBC to divine judgement. Trust me, w/o love for, the cost of publicly critcizing isn’t worth it.
