Polo is the most popular national sport of Gilgit-Baltistan which is called the king of sports here. There are various traditions in the history as to when and where the game originated, but based on some solid arguments it can be said that
the game originated thousands of years ago in the Karakoram valleys and the classic Kesar story of Baltistan. The game of polo was played here in an advanced form in the time of the hero Hlafro Caesar. Centuries-old relics of polo still exist in various valleys of Baltistan.
Also, according to various encyclopedias and English dictionaries, it is universally accepted that the word "polo" is a pure Balti (Tibetan) word and is used for a ball.
