Feels like the right thing to do is for baseball writers to elect nobody, then refuse to participate in future votes, dumping this mess in the Hall of Fame's lap. They can create some dumb committee to do their dirty work.

I've come all the way around on the Hall of Fame. It's a fine museum but the actual litany of players? It's dumb. The standards keep shifting, there are alternate means of entry, and the Hall itself keeps changing its rules and standards.
Beyond that, the hoary reliance on "writers" means that historians, broadcasters, and statisticians are essentially barred from contributing. Only writers. And those writers are generally journalists covering the industry. They should walk away.
Anyway, some cheaters are in the hall of fame but some great players aren't because they were cheaters. Some awful people are in the hall of fame but other awful people aren't because they are awful. A bunch of cronies are in the hall of fame because their pal was on a committee.
