Continuing the chat on #breastcancer surgery. For some people, an important part of the process when considering breast surgery options, is to read about other peopleâs experiences and talk to others whoâve been through it.
A key thing to remember when hearing about other peopleâs experiences is everyone is different. e.g, location/stage/grade of tumours/ personal preferences of surgeons/ procedures on offer at different hospitals/ objectives & preferences of the patient will be different.
Having said that, there are plenty of places where you can hear about the experiences of other women.
@BreastCancerNow have a service where you can talk to someone who has been through surgery. They also publish personal stories on their website e.g https://breastcancernow.org/about-us/news-personal-stories/i-love-my-body-after-having-double-mastectomy

Lots of women have set up their own blogs where they write about their experience. A super helpful article that will be of interest is @drbexl blog post on things she wishes sheâd know before her mastectomy https://drbexl.co.uk/2017/10/02/life-things-i-wish-id-known-surgerymastectomy-breastcancer-breastcancerrealities/
Another good article is Emilyâs blog about having a lumpectomy https://theopinionatedgirlsclub.wordpress.com/
Private forums & Facebook groups are excellent places to look for insight from people whoâve been through surgery (e.g. @YBCN_UK , @mastectomynet @FlatFriends_UK & Breast Cancer Support UK). Do a search for mastectomy on Facebook and it brings up loads of closed private groups.
I also know that thereâre plenty of people on social media whoâre happy to chat about their experience - donât hesitate to comment on posts & start up a conversation.
Does anyone have any favourite groups/blogs they can recommend for women who are waiting for/undergoing surgery?
