The @ACGME Internal Medicine Milestones Second Revision for implementation July 2021 was recently published online.

This was an endeavor that I was grateful to be part of, and I thought I might highlight some of the neat updates this week.

I think the very first thing I would highlight is that Milestones 2.0 brought in stakeholders and represented a broad swath of programs and individuals. This included community hospital programs, large academic programs, military training programs, rural and urban.

I was one of three resident representatives to ensure learner input. We had patient representatives to provide a perspective from the patient public. We had representatives from educational organizations and professional ones including ABIM, AAIM, and CDIM to name a few.

3/
This diversity of representation enriched our discussions and led to crafting and editing of wording to ensure that the values and priorities of our profession were reflected in these Milestones 2.0. I'll be highlighting some of the exciting changes in the next few days.

4/
From the outset, having voices and perspectives across the country from programs of all types, inclusive of learners and patients, ensuring gender and racial representation in the Milestones workgroups was so important to the writing process.
