The EO states that "it shall be the policy of the United States to ensure that all transgender individuals who wish to serve in the United States military and can meet the appropriate standards shall be able to do so openly and free from discrimination"....
...And it orders DOD to "take all necessary steps to ensure that all directives, orders, regulations, and policies of their respective departments are consistent with this order."
The original open service policy--and Trump's unconstitutional ban--were both implemented by DOD through a "Directive Type Memorandum" ("DTM"). We will be monitoring to make sure that it is repeal is fully implemented without delay.
