I am disappointed to report that Maryland Department of Health sent an email to @AAHealth on Saturday evening at 8pm announcing that the coming week’s allocation of vaccines would be reduced from the 5,000 that we had expected to only 2,925.
We have over 70,000 county residents pre-registered at http://aacounty.org/covidvax , and 5,000 scheduled for appointments to be vaccinated this coming week. With only 2,935 vaccines coming, we were faced with the question of whose appointments should be canceled.
The state’s allocation notice showed a five-fold increase in doses for our close partners at @AAMCNews. They had no advance notice of this sudden shift from under 1,000 last week to 4,975 doses this coming week.

A flurry of calls and emails on Sunday resulted in a solution.
AAMC will transfer nearly 2,000 doses to @AAHealth, allowing us to vaccinate all 5,000 of the residents who are scheduled. I want to personally thank AAMC CEO Sherry Perkins for always doing the right thing for the health of our county residents.
We & health depts. across the state have repeatedly told the Governor & MDH that advance notice of vaccine allocations are an essential component of an efficient vaccine distribution program. We must schedule appointments with our residents each week based on the allocations.
We don’t know why the Governor’s staff cut this week’s vaccine allocations for Anne Arundel County Health Department, but I can assure you that we are doing everything we can to encourage the state to provide us with more doses.
. @AACoFD stands ready to vaccinate 14,000 educators in 7 days & we have 4 sites prepared to move forward on an accelerated program to vaccinate all of 1B so we can move to 1C. Our request to the state was for 7,500 new doses for each of the last 3 weeks & we are capable of more.
As we move forward, I will continue to seek collaboration and advance planning with Maryland Department of Health and Governor Hogan. I will also engage with our United States Senators and Representatives to facilitate better planning and more doses from the federal government.
