Good day guys! There are three major things chicks need to survive and I will discuss these things in full.
Let me assume that 40% of my followers don't know much about brooding. I will be explicit as possible.
Here we go guys...
The three major things are ;
Thread 👇👇👇
1. Heat
2. Food and water
3. Housing
HEAT
It is true that when chicks are hatched and transported, they keep warm with their body heat. Once they get to their new home, they need you to provide the required warmth. I can see that you haven't gotten it. Chicks don't have developed
feathers that can keep them warm. If it were to be in a natural setting, the mother hen will provide the warmth by using "her" feathers.Since we are the ones that will do it, it is advisable we do it correctly. Chicks are more likely to die of cold. You need a brooder to achieve
the warmth goal. A brooder is a type of heated enclosure used for raising chicks. Let me state here that your brooder doesn't have to be a fancy or an expensive one. It needs to be effective. I have had people chat me that they do not have money to buy gas brooder. Don't kill
yourself because you do not have a gas brooder. You can use clay pots or coal pot. I love using clay pots because of the properties of clay. I have discussed the behaviour patterns of chicks in respect to heat if there is no thermometer. I will inform you again. If the chicks
move too close to the heat source(clay pot), it means they are not getting the required warmth. In other words, they are feeling cold. What you need to do is to increase the number of coal pots in the brooding pen and wait to see their reaction. If they on the other hand stay too
far away from the heat source, the heat provided is in excess. The solution is to reduce the number of coal pots in the brooding pen. Just find a way to reduce the heat. Chicks must be spread evenly in the brooder. The recommended temperature is between 30-33 degrees Celsius
depending on the breed of birds. A guy felt because they told him that chicks need heat, he decided to turn the chicks to roasted corn. That was how he lost money and time.

2. Food and Water
One mobile network brand says "Data is life" another said "Data is oxygen". I am
happy to inform you that in poultry, water with food(feed) is life.
This is simple yet requires knowledge. You can be wasting feed and assume that the chicks are eating the feed. There are feeders for all ages of chicks.
The worst part of brooding is provision of water. Do you
know that for the first few days of brooding, you can provide water and the chicks may still die of dehydration? It is not enough to give water. Show them where the drinkers are. Dip their beaks in water if that is what is required of you. We will not "je gbese" oo🤣🤣🤣.The only
time you are allowed to make them thirsty is when you are preparing them for oral vaccination. You are required to remove their drinkers or stop the flow of water(if you are using nozzle) the evening before the day of vaccination.
I will discuss housing tomorrow. I love you all.
