5 predictions about Clubhouse, a thread

↓↓↓↓↓
1. It's gonna be big, and it's gonna be mainstream. I've never seen a platform so quickly infiltrate every single one of my groups, including those that are NOT early adopters, like my parents groups. Based on what I've seen this week, I would invest in Clubhouse at £1bn today.
2. We're only in the first wave of 'topics'. Right now it's mostly music and entrepreneurship -- reflecting the communities that started on it. In the future it'll look more like most popular things on Reddit: gaming, movies, TV, sports, advice, hobbies like cycling, gadgets
Hat tip @iamtoosh for pointing that one out to me
3. However, not all of Reddit is going to make it onto Clubhouse, because of the lack of an essential feature: anonymity. Unless Clubhouse permits 3rd pty devs to introduce voice distortion, it's going to be a 'real identity' platform and that's going to constrain topics
(No 'Am I The Asshole?', which is the best bit of Reddit, frankly)

4. Lack of anonymity is a GREAT thing for women and minorities, as it'll likely mean far less harassment. That's also a result of the personal nature of talking. As a species, we're much meaner in text form
5. Gender parity is going to go backwards for a while. In the offline world, all male panels became almost extinct in 2019 due to efforts of allies, petitions and organisers. They'll be back with a vengeance on Clubhouse.
this concludes my Clubhouse talk
