One learning: at inflection points it’s not enough to report on what is actually happening. We also need to address what people see, hear and feel about what's happening. How they'll actually react. These aren’t always the same+ https://twitter.com/IreneGentle/status/1353752189865496582
To not figure out and then address what people are actually hearing and feeling, along with what is actually said or what is actually happening, is a lost chance to reach people at a time they need us most+
I never forgot that that we’re all living in a period that will be looked upon as historical. Just as we had combed through archives of the 1918-20 pandemic looking for insights and understanding, people will, at some point, sift through what we are reporting this year+
Not just the pandemic, but other historical lines in the sand, such as the siege on democracy, and an anti-racism reckoning. Journalism is a trust to the public today, but also to the people of tomorrow+
