Watched Godzilla: King of Monsters last night cuz w the new trailer I realized I hadn’t seen it yet. I have to say I have so many odd feelings about these new movies. I have a nostalgia factor w Godzilla n I just like cool monsters what can I say.
but I’m NOT chill with the+

I watched Godzilla as a child mostly. I wasn’t aware of a world w*r just that my friend @ daycare loved the monsters. I liked them too & thought his giant Godzilla toy was the best. It wasn’t until adulthood that I understood Godzilla was more complicated than just a monster flic
W the latest American made series I was aware of the og allegory but watched the first as popcorn. Not really taking it in. I listened to Metamachina’s pod about Godzilla a while back & realized the first new film was kinda yikes but now I see it got worse from there

*spoilers*
In the first film of this series, Godzilla helps save San Francisco. Now in KotM we learn there r outposts across the globe where ppl r stationed around The Titans, different giant creatures across the globe. Gidorah, an extraterrestrial hydra,

Threatens Godzilla’s stance as “King of the monsters” Godzilla eventually defeats Gidorah in Boston w radioactive
powers. Shortly after other monsters arrive there to bow to Godzilla.

When I put that in terms of og symbolism... wt actual f???
military helps the

I am v curious how
audiences have taken these new films. I realize that the Godzilla symbol has changed over the yrs but for Americans to flip it in this way... like do they realize what they did? It felt quite clear to me in the end but I wonder if it was a conscious choice.

I only wonder because so often anymore it seems people are not understanding the symbols they are playing with. It’s hard to tell who is aware of what they’re wielding and who is just flailing it around.
