In case you're wondering how the rest of the NFL views the Bears right now, Deuce Staley just turned them down to take the exact same position with the Detroit Lions.

The Lions are quietly assembling a ton of talent in the front office and coaching staff. The Bears are... not.

This is the problem with keeping lame duck GM/coach. They have to promote from within at DC because outside guys won't come. Position coaches will only come here if they can't get a comparable job pretty much anywhere else.

And meanwhile you're left with a desperate GM and head coach who will sacrifice the future (they likely won't be here for) in a foolish pursuit of winning now (which isn't happening for this roster).

This is exactly why the Bears had to make a move sooner rather than later. They're only delaying the inevitable, but the effects will linger for years.
