The Vardy Quandary [Thread]

FPL managers cursed their luck on Friday when Jamie Vardy was ruled out for a "few weeks" following a hip operation.

In this thread I will evaluate the best replacements.

Harry Kane:

In terms of team structure Kane is a good fit for those looking to continue with a big forward system. Whilst fixtures over the next five appear difficult (LIV, bha, CHE, WBA, mci) it could be argued that there is no better time to play Liverpool.
Furthermore, a dearth of armband options in GW23 make the Spurs marksman a potential captaincy option when The Baggies visit Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Whilst ranking first amongst all players for shot frequency Kane has rejuvenated himself as a pick by improving his creativity.
On season to date data the England international ranks top amongst all players for assists (11) and tied 2nd amongst all players for big chance created (12). With upwards of 300,000 transfers in this week Kane’s top 10k ownership of 44% at close of GW19 is set to see a boost.
Michail Antonio

Antonio rewarded brave suitors in DGW19 with a haul of 18pts after accruing a goal and top bonus in both games. These took Antonio’s goal tally to five for the season despite a campaign which has been curtailed severely due to hamstring injury suffered in GW6.
Given the West Ham sharp-shooter’s injury woes this season the data sample size is small however per 90 minutes he averages 2.9 shots, 1.6 shots on target, and 2.4 shots in the box. These numbers compare similarly with the some of the best strikers in the division this season.
Antonio’s prowess as a top marksman is no surprise as he hit a purple patch during Project Restart when he ranked second amongst all players for shots (33) and goals (8). With reasonable fixtures in the next five (cry, LIV, avl, ful, SHU) Antonio looks set to continue his form.
Patrick Bamford:

Surprisingly, Bamford is having a breakout season and with 10 goals to his name the former Chelsea trainee sits alongside some of the biggest names in the division in the hunt for the golden boot. The data confirms Bamford’s performances have been no fluke.
The Leeds striker ranks top amongst all players based on season to date data for shots inside the box (57) and joint top for shots on target (28) with Bruno Fernandes. Furthermore, Bamford ranks second amongst forwards for shots (69) and big chances (18).
The Leeds marksman has a plum fixture away to a dire Newcastle that look every inch a Championship side. Over the next five fixtures look reasonable (new, lei, EVE, CRY, ars). Given his form, numbers and the acquisition of pens since Klich missed I back Bamford for a big GW20.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin:

The Sheffield native lit excelled in the early part of the season. With ten goals in his opening nine games Calvert-Lewin earned senior England recognition and a debut goal against Wales. However, his form since GW10 is in stark contrast with GW1-9.
This period of decline coincided with the absence of Digne & Rodriguez who between them created 80% of Everton's big chances in the first nine weeks (12/15). A favourable run of fixtures over the next five games (LEI, NEW, lee, mun, FUL) and the return of Everton's creativity..
should see a fit again Calvert-Lewin back amongst the goals. Furthermore, a goal scoring return in the FA Cup against Sheffield Wednesday, where Rodriguez provided two assists, bodes well for DCL goals in the near future.
Timo Werner:

Please. Don’t. Laugh. A summer arrival from RB Leipzig Werner arrived in London with a reputation and price tag to match. The German forward returned upwards of 30 goals in an impressive 19/20 season boasting some of the best xGI numbers across Europe's leagues.
Werner was a very popular choice in the fantasy community at the start of the season but has largely underwhelmed. Often cutting a disconsolate figure on the left wing Lampard showed a clear preference for both Abraham & Giroud as his starting striker.
However, at the time of going to press Lampard has parted company with Chelsea with Tuchel bookies favourite to take the hot seat. New manager bounce could bring the best out of Chelsea & Werner ahead of favourable run of fixtures in the next five weeks (WOL, BUR, tot, shu, NEW).
In conclusion, of the options explored I believe Kane to be the standout option. He is the leading striker in the division with a new found creativity, and higher point ceiling, when playing in a more no.10 type role. For Kane owners I feel Bamford will have the best GW20.
Antonio also looks amazing value at present. In terms of differentials I feel that DCL will re-emerge following the return of Everton’s creative options. Werner at this stage would be a punt and it may be best to wait and see but those that feel they are chasing could do worse.
