There will be a lot of high-profile Ohio Republicans who take a long look at the Portman seat. Names already being mentioned: Lt. Gov. Jon Husted, AG Dave Yost, Secretary of State Frank LaRose, former state treasurer Josh Mandel, and yes, Jim Jordan.
"Well, this will be a total shit show," one Ohio Republican strategist just texted me.
On the Democratic side, you're going to hear a lot about Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley and Rep. Tim Ryan.
Another name Republicans are sharing with me: Mike Gibbons, a self-funding businessman who ran in 2018 but lost the primary to Jim Renacci. He's interested in another run, I'm told.
