Frank Lampard wasn’t the biggest problem at Chelsea FC, hope this helps.
Lampard was out of his depth to clear up, and was still working out his tactics, we saw glimpses of this but that aside the problem stems down way deeper. The board, players with ego not backing the manager, back room staff and hierarchy politics, Lampard having no one to trust..
This job was too early for Lampard either way, being a manager at CFC is arguably one of the most demanding jobs in the World. Lampard put his job on the line to get rid of deadwood, those same players turned on him and yet the board decided to take their opinion over Lampard’s..
The board “backing” Lampard might be one of the biggest myths ever. Just my take but I feel Lampard was always a stop gap manager, the board had their contingency plans already made ie a new manager but kept Lampard to see if he does succeed, as soon as things went downhill, 👋.
The sad thing is Lampard was going to leave this job last season but he stayed because of how much he loves this club, why assign Lampard to the job in the 1st place if you’re not going to back and show him that loyalty the same way he showed as a player. Embarrassing
In the end Lampard did have his flaws though, his in game management etc was awful, and lineups were questionable. None of this would have made a difference anyways, things got too late and he’d had already lost the backing from certain players and clearly the dressing room.
His time at Chelsea was a success, Top 4 last season with the integration of youth, FA Cup Final, decent UCL run was an overachievement. He came here to rebuild the squad and he did that perfectly, sadly not all dreams come true.
