1. You HAVE to quit your job to build something in public.
It’s all about transparency and managing expectations. Don’t surprise your boss. Know what success looks like in your current role. Align on outcomes vs output mentality.

2. You HAVE to only talk about the thing you are building.
People don’t connect to a thing...they connect to an emotion. People are more emotional than products and showing your multi-faceted self will help others connect to you.

3. The goal is raising capital.
I worked on House of Wise for a year before raising capital. That year allowed me to line up my supply chain, audience insights and qualitative research and so much more. BIP is not just about investors.

4. You should say YES to everything
In the beginning I said yes to every convo / podcast / networking opportunity. This helped me a ton but time is finite and without clear goals/intentions.....these micro yes moments add up to a big distraction.
I set aside 4 hrs a week now.

5. You have to share EVERYTHING.
This is the biggest misconception. You don’t have to share all the ups and downs.
Transparency without boundaries is not vulnerability - it’s over sharing.
